About the Artist

Sea Gem Art was created in 2002 by South Florida Artist, Marion O’Brien, known for using colorful seashells to embellish her one of kind designs for the home. Each item that Marion creates evokes the beauty of the Sea. Using exquisite shells, forms, textures, and color, Marion sculpts her unique creations to be used in your home.

Marion’s seashell designs include not only natural materials such as sea fans, crab claws, egg cases, worm shells, sea glass, sea urchin spines and other beach “bling” she has found on the many beaches she walks. She loves incorporating the organic natural items that Mother Nature makes because she feels you cannot improve on their original inherent beauty.

Having grown up in New England and summering on the coast of Rhone Island, she developed a sense of wonder for the beach, seashells, and the magnificent ocean. It was not until she moved to Florida when she was able to incorporate her creativity into her business.

Marion’s designs are built on structurally sound architectural principals. She strategically places one shell at a time to build her extraordinary designs. All pieces utilize marine strength glues for lasting works of art.

Her business continues to grow, originally a part-time hobby, and today she supplies sixteen retail stores in Florida from Vero Beach to Ocean Reef. Her unusual designs can be found in elegant homes in the Bahamas, the Midwest and Nantucket.

Marion continues to redefine her craft to find new ways to use seashells for your home. Her designs include mirrors, baskets, boxes, purses, bathroom items, glass platters, votive candles, picture frames and more.
